Design

I have spent the first half of today watching video’s from Robby Ingebretsen and I have been truly inspired and motivated to get off my butt that I have lately been sat sitting on far too much, whining, moaning & stamping my foot as well as this girlie can do about the fact that I can’t do it (oh I think I forgot to mention the pouting and doe eyes) and I am not as good as …….. (fill in whoever you personally think is brilliant:) )

So, thank you so much to Robby your enthusiasm for design, honesty about yourself and work you have done via MIX10 videos & slides and microsoft .toolbox oh and dare I forget to mention an *encounter* with a website this afternoon (totally unrelated to Robby and or Microsoft) but that shall remain nameless due to Robby’s word of wisdom in ‘attack 10′ *be nice* :D

So watch out world, I’m a coming to conquer the ‘I can’t do it’ demon.

PS If you want to wish me luck or sprinkle some fairy dust that would be great too :) I’ll keep ya posted on how I get on…

Here is my girlie :) she has the apple bug…

Kites

Well the kids have the kiting bug – so you can guess what we are going to spend most of our time doing this summer :) and to be fair as long as it involves lots of beach trips I am a happy bunny too :)

Roosters

Or as we Brits call them Roosters ‘cockerels’ are seriously getting on my nerves!  Some of  you maybe thinking, ‘ahh the girl got poultry’, this girlie here who once was having chickens  come hell or high water… (end of  movie chicken run stylie) and skipping to the bottom of the garden to get my fresh eggs in the morning :)  must once again grovel (ummm well maybe grovel is too strong a word – but you get where I am going with this) for forgiveness to the long and suffering  Richard – many a day he has listened (well to be fair he has the knack of *looking* like he is listening however…)  to me with, “oh I so want chickens”  - umming and arrrh over eglus and which one to have, what we would call them all and on and on and on…

His response was always the same – “ummm really darling I think we should wait until… always a sound (if not somewhat frustrating) cool headed good reason!)

Well no more!

So… why? Well as some of you may know September 2009 saw the re-location of Frozensky Software Ltd from the good old home office up to the old dairy farm, and I now have another reason to add to the growing ‘thank god i made the move’ list as I have been well and truly put off -

Roosters, Cockerels, whatever you wish to call them… they ‘bleep cock-a-bleeping-doddle’ all day!  And just when you are about to go out and wring  their necks*! they stop – phew you can breath again and the blood pressure begins to slowly come back down…

But yes you guessed it… ‘doodle-bleeping-cock-a doodle-bleeping-day’  again!

* no harm has come to any of these magnificent beasts in the making of this blog post :)

Arrival

Ahhhh it’s here……. Designing for the web By Mark Boulton

The corners on the packaging were a great idea by the way they definately took the brunt of the damage! :)

So now I think a glass of wine and a quiet garden seat to enjoy and digest the book….. bliss.

British Summer

Working from home really does have its benefits – I sit here enjoying the peace, (children back to school after half-term and Richard back at work), basking in the glorious British summer sun, it’s here – I am not sure how long it will stay….. so I am making the most of it!! :)

Contemplating life with…

Coffee & Brioche    010620090351 and a lovely view…    010620090362

and for those of you thinking, I thought she said working…. yes I am working – I have my post its, pencil and paper (yes sadly I can’t actually see what is displayed on the screen of my laptop out here due to the sunny sun) -paper will always have a special place in my heart at least until some fabulous soul invents something to change that….

Random thoughts as I bask……

1 Start posting here as I said I would as part of NYR ’09, wonder if I set myself the goal of once a month that I might actually make it?

2 Thinking about way to/am going to archive my stuff here – may have to use/do something else as I want to be able to add stuff into other places/slots rather than latest posted date is at the top…. OK, I know what I mean…. move along now….

3 Previous thought of course leads me swiftly to the design…… how long do you have…..

4 Panic sets in, think about something else….

5 Running….. at the weekend @frozenskys found the nike/ipod adapter so now my, OMG,  6 month, excuse  not to go running has…  run out… ummm I am not sure how I feel about this, I have spent so many hours lamenting the fact that I just can’t possibly go for a run without this fantastic device  (IMHO it is fantastic if you want/like running – I can highly recommend it)

6 OK that definately calls for more coffee and brioche……

7 ……

8 nom, nom, nom

9 ……

10 Well Iwould hate to be accused of ‘binge tanning’ so really should go in for a little rest from the sun……

A Project

From September 2008 it became obvious that if all went well with a major purchase that 2009 was going to be a momentous year in the Cooper-Harris household.

On a very wet and miserable day I went to look at a building plot in the village of Long Buckby.  It was almost too much to believe, – after 10 years of Richard and I talking, dreaming, envying the people who were doing it, watching the never ending stream of build and design programmes, drooling over the glossy magazines, driving around the country eyeing up dilapidated buildings -that in my mind were crying out to be lovingly restored and lived in (usually with a price tag far out of our meagre budget!)

Not to mention the fact that the majority were so totally unsuitable for us – but that didn’t stop the heart going racing on ahead, what would be wrong with setting up and living in the middle of Wales surrounded predominantly by sheep, in a building that barely had running water never mind habitable, with 2 small children in tow while Richard worked mon-fri in the city earning the money?!

Thankfully Richard was at my side to bring me back to reality with a bump, leaving me ending most of the *discussion* with, “you just don’t have any vision!”

Well I am happy to announce that we didn’t get one of these unimaginably unsuitable for a first time project on a limited budget nooses around our necks!  True to his predictions we have finally found the project that we can turn into a lovely family home, in a suitable area, and the icing on the cake – we both like it!

Chard House BarnA

The actual purchase of the plot was relatively straight forward,  thankfully we took decision to employed a commercial property solicitor, Victor Guse from Franklins LLP who was fantastic and a decision I would highly recommend.

It did get a little sticky in the run up to Christmas and the new year – the purchase need to go through before 1st Jan 2009 or it ran the risk of falling through – now at any other time of the year this time frame wouldn’t have posed too much of an issue – but with the Festivities getting underway, people taking annual leave and public holidays ….. Fraught it was!

But the outcome a success for us -we exchanged contracts 23rd December with the completion date set.

So 16th Jan 2009 we became the relieved, thrilled, and somewhat daunted owners of Chard house Barns, Long Buckby.  Hell yeah!!

So now the hard work begins, the build…..
